Porsche Turbos, Nuclear Testing & Market Research

Porsche_911_TurboEarlier this month on my birthday, I was hanging out with John Murphy in Kirkland. If you didn’t know, Kirkland’s about 13 miles outside of Seattle. Great place for performance driving. There’s something about pushing a Porsche Turbo to its limits on the track. It’s like becoming one with the car. I can feel things happening to the car before it happens. Like a bump on the road. It’s this intense focus. In between races, I was flipping through Michael Drosnin’s biography on Howard Hughes. I bought the book two years ago after watching “The Aviator”. What’s interesting is how this book came to be.

In 1974, some guys staged a daring burglary into Howard’s headquarters hoping to score big, only to find miscellaneous memos and documents.
